The 10 Coolest Offices of 2015

In keeping with the Location Rebel spirit, at the end of each year I create a list of the top 10 coolest "offices" I've had for the year.

Clearly, these are not offices in the traditional sense, but rather proving that you really truly can work from anywhere.

Here the offices from previous years: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014

This year was extra fun as we created an entire video around this concept. If you haven't seen The Desk, you should proooobably watch it now:

I only included one of these "offices" in this list, as it was the one where I, surprisingly, actually got legitimate work done in the form of a blog post.

So with that, let's jump right in to the 10 coolest offices of 2015.

10) Over a Gorge in Eagle Crest, Oregon

Eagle Crest copy

Each March I take a trip out to Eagle Crest to ski and golf. The views in that area are spectacular, but to have a morning like this where I've got views of the gorge and the river below, were easily enough to have this make the list.

9) Dreamliner Business Class

Office in the sky.

Office in the sky.

For all the travel I do, I've generally stuck to a mindset of I'd rather have two economy class flights versus one business class flight.

I'm starting to think that's changing, as this office in the sky was pretty damn sweet. And what other office provides bottomless champagne?

8) Manor Vail – Vail, Colorado

Foot of fresh? Views of the mountain? Speedy wifi? What more needs to be said?

7) Home Deck – Portland, Oregon

For most of you, this will seem pretty unsexy. But for me? It was one of my favorite spots to work in the summer. Sitting up in the trees, listening to music, and banging out work without having to leave the comfort of my own home.

6) W Hotel Union Square – New York, New York

I'm sitting here finishing up this post, and I looked outside and this is my view.

I just now looked outside, and this is what I saw.

So yeah, pretty much had to add this one to the list :)

5) Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay – Half Moon Bay, California

Despite still playing a pretty impressive amount of golf this year, the only golf course on the list is the spectacular Ritz at Half Moon Bay.

Why does it make the list?

For starters, because our room at it's own private firepit with views of the bay…

I mean seriously…how cool is that?

Then for an even more spectacular office, you can head down to the terrace overlooking the 18th hole. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

There's an even better view sitting behind that green :)

4) Villa Song Saigon – Saigon, Vietnam

In February we took off for Vietnam to get custom suits made for my groomsmen. For one night during out week in the chaos fueled city, we snuck off to Villa Song Saigon, which was about a 15 minute boat ride from the center of the city.

There we were treated to an estate that had been converted to a boutique hotel that was absolutely beautiful.

Having morning coffee here was one of my favorite experiences of the trip, and sitting by the pool wasn't half bad either.

3) Koosah Falls – Mckenzie River, Oregon

In the most precarious scene we filmed for The Desk (see the making of, here), I was left dangling on top of a giant waterfall.

During this scene we didn't film any audio, so it was essentially just some b-roll shots of me working.

Well, to take my mind off my impending plunge over the edge, I started writing – and actually got a full blog post written. Thus making this a legitimate candidate for this list.

2) Water Villa – Shangri-La Villingili, Maldives

I mean...c'mon.

I mean…c'mon.

For our honeymoon we took off to the most exotic place I could think of: the Maldives.

The Shangri-La Villingili was absolutely spectacular, and soon I'll do a full write up of our experience.

But one of my bucket list items was to stay in an overwater bungalow – and this office allowed me to cross it off the list.

It was the most spectacular hotel room I've ever seen, complete with hammock over the water, and access to our own private reef for snorkeling. Yeah that didn't suck.

1) Treehouse Villa – Shangri-La Villingili, Maldives

Treehouse Office

It kind of seems like cheating to have my top two offices in the same place, but I really couldn't have done it any other way. These villas were so different from each other, that they warranted their own spots on the list.

Just when we didn't think anything could top our Water Villa, we got upgraded to one of these. Between the private infinity pool, views of the Indian Ocean, cabana over the beach, and unbelievable room – this was hands down the coolest hotel room I've ever had.

One more..

One more..

We were in this villa for three nights, and due to my jetlag, I was up at sunrise pretty much everyday. Sitting out on the deck with my espresso, overlooking the pool and ocean was one of the coolest moments I've ever had.

I just kept saying "how on Earth did I end up here?"

Then when I realized it was a combination of a lot of hard work, and bunch of frequent flyer miles, I got even more motivated to work and grow the business.

Yeah, only one thing left to say about that: life doesn't suck.

Vlog 2: The Quest for the World's Most Exotic Office

For the next month I'm doing a bit of an experiment and posting a weekly vlog every Thursday. Some will be business, some will be travel, some will just be whatever I'm feeling this week.

This Thursday I'll be releasing Vlog #2: The Quest for the World's Most Exotic Office.

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, so if you want a notification when it goes live, just sign up for the Location 180 You Tube Channel. I try and make these as fun as possible, so definitely check it out.

And if you missed last week's, 24 Hours in Singapore, here it is:
