Parent Events

Last week our advancement team held two events, one for new parents, and another for donors to SAS. The enthusiastic support of the work that you do was simply incredible. Seriously, I was overcome by parent after parent who talked about how deeply our faculty and staff care, and what a great decision it was to send their children to SAS. WOW!! This is what makes our school great... the decision you make each and every day to do your best for our kids. Our parents notice, and so do I. Thank you for making SAS truly exceptional.

Holiday Event

Last year we held an all-school holiday event as a way to bring us all together in one place. This gives us the opportunity to connect with each other across divisions and celebrate with each other. After last year's event I asked for feedback from faculty and it was suggested that we continue doing the school-wide holiday event, but that we move it to later in the day. This will allow for staff to do other things that day, including personal social events with other staff members. As a result, the following are the details for this year's all school event:

Who: All SAS faculty and staff (and spouse/partner)

What: Holiday event - Cocktails and Canapés

When: Saturday December 12, 2015

Time: 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Where: Halia at Botanic, 1 Cluny Road, Singapore Botanical Garden, 259569

To plan drinks and food, please let us know if you plan on attending with an RSVP here: Faculty and Staff Holiday Social

Climate Committee

The SAS Climate Committee met last week and is working closely with the leadership team to find ways to ensure that we have a healthy organizational culture, and positive work climate. The team has been very helpful in providing feedback and generating ideas. The team's agreed upon purpose is to "communicate a clear and cohesive message, about a positive climate, that is informed by members throughout the organization." Thank you to Vicky Rogers and Louise Donaghey who have volunteered to take a leadership role with this committee. If you have questions or comments, please reach out to either one, or anyone else that is on the team.

High Visibility Reviews

Each year we do a number of reviews for identified programs and curricular areas. Some reviews garner more attention from our community than others. This year we have three reviews in particular that are receiving a lot of community interest. These reviews are for college counseling, sports and activities, and technology. In all three cases we are anticipating reports with recommendations in the spring. Also for each review we are using outside expertise to work with our internal staff to help us identify best practices, look at our data and practices, and provide suggestions for improvement.

In the case of college counseling, we are using Dan Grayson who is working with Jennifer Sparrow and the college counseling team. For sports and activities we are using a community advisory team led by Tim Stuart. And for technology we are using Cheryl Lemke of the Metiri group who is helping Jason Cone with this work. Also in all cases we are seeking community feedback to help us understand our community view and expectations.

We will be updating staff and community as these reviews move along.

Have a wonderful Deepavali holiday!!
