The easy way to find your perfect hair colour

Coco Chanel said “a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life”, but what happens when you change your hair colour?

Hair Romance - How to find your perfect hair colour

So far my hair has been blonde, light brown, dark brunette, red, pink, orange, auburn, strawberry blonde, honey blonde and right now it’s getting pretty close to platinum blonde. When I look back at old photos, I can almost date them just by my hair colour.

Over the years I’ve tried so many different hair colours and each time I learnt something new. It’s like expressing a different part of my personal style and my personality through my hair.

I’ve changed my hair colour so much that I’m not really exactly sure what my natural colour is anymore. When I was little my hair was pale blonde, pretty close to the colour I am now. As I got older my hair changed colour as well, becoming darker and eventually turning curly too.

I started to experiment with my hair colour when I was around 14. I started with some blonde highlights and I would also try semi-permanent colours in the school holidays. My school was pretty strict on hair colours, so I could only try a colour that could wash out before the term was back.

All these trials over the years have taught me one thing: that your hair grows back and you should have more fun with your hair!

Hair Romance - my crazy hair colours

I changed hair colours like I changed clothes, but now I’m realising that there are just certain shades that feel more me. Maybe it reminds me of my hair as a child but I do feel more myself as a blonde.

Finding your perfect hair colour, the shade that really suits you, is so key to your own hair romance. I believe the right hair colour will make you fall in love with your hair. But knowing which hair colour is going suit you is the hard part. So how do you find out what shade will suit you?

How to know which hair colours will suit you

Hair Romance - How to tell which hair colours will suit you

1. Look back through old photos

Take inspiration from some old photos as to what hair colours could suit you now. Was your hair colour different when you were younger, like me? Did you try a hair colour in your teens that really suited you?

2. Try on wigs

Trying on different coloured wigs is a great way to see what’s going to suit you, as you get the full effect of a new colour instantly. It’s a great way to tell what shades work with your skin tone.

3. Try this hair colour match tool

A super quick and easy way to find out what hair colours will suit you is the new Schwarzkopf Colour Match tool. It’s a really fun quiz that only takes a couple of minutes to do and helps you to find your perfect colour match.

It goes through your hair history, what colours you like and also what will match your skin tone. Click here to give it a try now and don’t forget to come back and tell me what it says your perfect colour would be.

I tried this colour match tool and loved the full report it gives you on what tones will suit you. It’s funny that, after all these years, being back to the colour I was when I was a baby is the best match for me!

I would love to know your hair colour story. Do you love your natural hair colour? Or have you found a colour that’s more you? Do you colour your hair at home or go to a salon?

Tell me your colour hair story and feel free to ask me if you’ve got any hair colour questions in the comments below.
