The Back Flap
Moving between Washington, DC, and the farming town of Vexton, The Complete Vexton Trilogy tells the story of a politically divided country in search of salvation, twenty-five years after a civil war. President Westgale and his Administration are in trouble. A series of mysterious events, including a number of high-profile murders, point to a conspiracy that goes deeper than they ever imagined. Unrest among America’s youth has spilled over into rebellion, and the economy is increasingly tied to the fortunes of the autocratic nation Pinia. Against this backdrop, an election is called, revealing deep political rifts. But ultimately Americans may have no control over their fate. With a deadline looming to pay its debt to the Outer Commission and the emergence of an ominous threat, the country is at risk of not just losing its freedom, but of ceasing to exist at all.
About the book
What is the book about?
The Complete Vexton Trilogy is a political / sci-fi thriller, telling the story of a near future America, so politically divided, twenty-five years after a civil war, that it finds itself in search of salvation. The story reveals a series of moral conflicts and events through the concepts of political and corporate corruption, technology and tradition, terrorism, medicine and mysticism, and youthful rebellion. As these elements are threaded together to create a thought-provoking and entertaining story the reader is taken through various webs of intrigue with the story’s many endearing and revolting characters. But unlike most gloomy, dystopian visions of the future, the Vexton Trilogy, through all its peril conveys a message of hope. The complete trilogy is comprised of Book One: MANUFRACTURED, Book Two: MOON SHADE BLUFF, Book Three: THE PRESERVATION PLAN
When did you start writing the book?
In 2012.
How long did it take you to write it?
The three books were written in 5 years.
Where did you get the idea from?
From witnessing the world around me, it just kind of sparked as a storyline.
Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?
The first book was the most difficult because of the world-building.
What came easily?
Due to the complexity of the story and the thought I put into it, there wasn’t a single element that came easily.
Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?
Entirely fictitious.
We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?
Ray Bradbury. I really enjoy how he regarded the idea of technology vs tradition. The dichotomy of which is quite prevalent in the Vexton story.
Do you have a target reader?
18 years and up.
About Writing
Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?
I think it’s best to write when the ideas are flowing. While I’m writing, I look ahead and back at the same time. It’s vital to always have a clear perspective as to where the story’s been and where it’s going.
Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?
I developed my story in blocks, so yes, I believe outlining is very important. It’s also important to look within the outline for leads that will help in the development of further ideas. As the outlines link together, the entire story begins to fall into place.
Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?
Yes, I edit as I go. As I’m writing I edit in and around the area of 15,000 words. Each of my three books were in the 80-85,000 word range.
Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?
No, I write in silence. However, I did create an hour soundtrack to accompany the Vexton Trilogy.
About Publishing
Did you submit your work to Agents?
No
What made you decide to go Indie, whether self-publishing or with an indie publisher? Was it a particular event or a gradual process?
I decided to go to an indie publisher on a recommendation.
Did you get your book cover professionally done or did you do it yourself?
Professionally.
Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?
Somewhere in the middle.
Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?
First and foremost, for any work to resonate with others it must come from the heart. The writer must also be confident and not swayed by the fact that not everyone is going to appreciate their creation. From a technical standpoint, it’s very important to constantly edit your work.
About You
Where did you grow up?
Toronto, Canada
Where do you live now?
Toronto, Canada
What would you like readers to know about you?
As a writer, I’m somebody who relishes in using my imagination to create a world beyond the one we know. And I’m sincerely appreciative and thrilled when someone climbs into that world and takes the journey with me.
What are you working on now?
Doing my best to inform the world about the Vexton Trilogy with the hope of seeing the story turned into a motion picture or television series.
