Dry, damaged hair? I feel you.
My hair is naturally dry because it’s curly. Add to that the amount of bleaching and styling I do and it starts to show in my hair.
It can feel tangled and knotty, and split ends start appearing. There’s no way to magically repair split ends except for a haircut, but you don’t need to get a pixie cut to fix your dry and damaged hair.
Set a goal for shiny, soft hair and follow these tips to turn this into your reality.
5 ways to fix dry, damaged hair plus my waterfall braid tutorial to show off your shiny hair
1. Inspect the ends
Take a good look at your hair and assess the damage. Book in for a trim to lose those split ends before they impact on the rest of your hair. Our ends are always the most likely to show damage as they’re the oldest hair. The rest of your hair can be treated, but the ends have to go. It’s best to say goodbye now before they try and split further up your hair.
2. Stay out of the sun
The sun can dry your hair and cause more damage to already fragile hair. Wear a hat when you’re outside, and if you’re swimming, make sure to apply conditioner to your hair before hitting the water.
3. Choose your products wisely
You don’t want to load your hair down with products and just coat the damage. Silicones can help mask the damage, but they won’t repair it.
Klorane’s new Desert Date range is ideal for treating damaged hair as it doesn’t contain silicones or parabens, but it does contain desert dates. Of course a desert plant has a fix for dryness. The seed of this unlikely plant is high in fatty acids and proteins, which is what your hair needs to change from desert to dessert. Too punny? Oh well.
But seriously, they’re great products. The shampoo and conditioner feel nourishing, but don’t weigh your hair down like some products I’ve tried. You only need a smidge of the leave-in cream, and you can use this daily on wet or dry hair.
4. Cool it down
Your poor, dry and damaged hair will really crack under the pressure of heat styling. It may even be the reason your hair’s hurting in the first place. If you want your hair to recover, then cool it down and cut down on your heat styling.
5. Space out your styling
Teasing and brushing your hair every day can cause breakage. You need to take care, especially with fragile hair. Dry shampoo is the perfect product to help you stretch out the time between styling so that your hair can recover.
But what hairstyling options are you left with?
Braids of course!
And I’m sharing a video tutorial for one of my favourite styles – the waterfall braid.
Whether you have a bob or super long hair, you can do the waterfall braid in your hair. Watch my quick braid hairstyle tutorial below.

Braiding tips:
- Braids in wet hair – braiding your hair wet means you can skip blowdrying or ironing your hair and get some heat-free waves at the same time.
- Braids for short hair – try twisting your hair back if it’s too short to braid. This waterfall braid works even in short bobbed hair so give it a try!
- Braids for long hair – layer you braids together to create different styles in long hair. You can add a braid or bun below the waterfall if you want to put all your hair up.
How has your hair fared this season? Is it more of a desert or a dessert?
It’s time to show your hair some love and nourish it in time for summer. You can find the new Klorane Desert Date range in leading pharmacies nationwide.
