I was thinking of so many scenarios that exist where a business owner has his daughter working at his firm. I felt it would be an interesting story to explore if an employee actually went out on a date with his boss’s daughter.

The Back Flap
What could possibly happen when an employee at a major advertising agency makes the ambitious decision to go out on a date with his boss’s daughter? It’s a night that Bobby Hunter will never forget.
About the book
What is the book about?
First off, thank you for having me. Date with My Boss’s Daughter is about what happened when an employee from an advertising agency goes out on a date with his boss’s daughter. It’s about everything that happened that night.
When did you start writing the book?
I started writing the book May of 2017.
How long did it take you to write it?
It took me about a week to write it and about two weeks to edit it.
Where did you get the idea from?
I was thinking of so many scenarios that exist where a business owner has his daughter working at his firm. I felt it would be an interesting story to explore if an employee actually went out on a date with his boss’s daughter.
Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?
The hardest part of the process was the editing.
What came easily?
The development of the story, as far as what happens and the conclusion. The dialogue also came pretty easy. I had a lot of fun writing this book.
Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?
My characters are completely fictitious.
We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?
There are a lot of authors that have influenced me.
I like Stephen King’s nuanced and multilayered style of writing. It could be a horror book, but he’ll find a way to inject a little humor.
I also really like Peter Abrahams, specifically how he builds suspense and writes incredible dialogue.
I love how George Orwell and John Steinbeck put messages in their books.
Do you have a target reader?
I would say it depends on the book. My primary goal is to make the book as entertaining as possible. I believe that Date with My Boss’s Daughter could be entertaining for any age group, but if I had to pick an age group, I would say 17 to 45. I think both men and women could find this book enjoyable.
About Writing
Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?
I like to first think of the idea for the book. Sometimes I’ll have a conclusion in mind as I start writing, other times a conclusion develops as I write. I like to write freely as thoughts come to mind.
Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?
For a shorter story, I generally do not outline. I just try to have an understanding of the beginning, middle, and end.
For a longer story, I may outline to indicate certain events that need to happen to make the story work.
Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?
If it’s a glaring error that I see, I’ll edit at that moment. But generally, I prefer to edit after I finish because I want to make sure that I get all of my thoughts down.
Did you hire a professional editor?
After I did my own editing, I hired a professional editor to finetune.
Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?
I don’t listen to any music while I write.
About Publishing
Did you submit your work to Agents?
I didn’t submit my work. At this time, I’d rather go the self-publishing route.
What made you decide to go Indie, whether self-publishing or with an indie publisher? Was it a particular event or a gradual process?
I felt the self-publishing route was the best way to publish my books without delay. I want to have the opportunity to be able to release a book when I feel that it’s ready to come out.
Did you get your book cover professionally done or did you do it yourself?
I had my book cover professionally done.
Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?
This is my first published book, so I’m learning as I go. I do try to market the book on the different social media outlets, along with on my website DarekBlack.com.
Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?
As a newbie myself that’s still learning, my biggest advice is that new authors have their own website to market their work. I recommend building as much momentum as possible prior to the release of their book.
