In the 1970s, because of its growing size, Singapore American School was becoming a force to be reckoned with in team sports other than its traditional strength, softball. Soccer, basketball, rugby and girls' field hockey all grew to be successful school sports. Two sports in particular made an impact on high school competition in Singapore—basketball and rugby.
